DR ANGUS PERRY

Male

Dr Angus Perry, a General Practitioner, first graduated from the University of Leicester in 2009 with a degree in Medical Genetics. He continued his medical journey at the University of Southampton, earning his medical degree in 2014, while also securing an intercalated degree in Respiratory Genetics and winning the esteemed Jack Howell Prize for his research on asthma. Passionate about sports and exercise, Dr Perry has collaborated with elite athletes in various sports, including world champions in Formula One and boxing. His expertise extends beyond the clinic as he has contributed to books and journals, sharing insights into his research and clinical experiences. Moreover, Dr Perry is deeply engaged in the realm of health technology, having played a pivotal role in bringing health technology solutions to the global market. With a focus on transforming primary care, he is actively exploring the integration of Artificial Intelligence, envisioning a future where AI enhances patient care and revolutionises healthcare delivery.

DR KATHARINE JONES

Female

Dr Katharine Jones has worked in the NHS for over 25 years. She undertook specialist training in western acupuncture during her GP training scheme and has integrated this into her day-to-day consultations during her twenty years in practice. She spent the first half of her career working in an area of high health need in Liverpool in addition to experience as an expedition medic. prison doctor and clinical research fellow at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. She was an Honorary Editor of the Cochrane Infectious Diseases Group, a core member of the WHO Malaria Treatment Guideline Group and author of five peer review publications including first author of a review that triggered a change in the global recommended treatment for severe malaria. Kath left Liverpool in 2016 to start a post as an Associate Medical Director in NHS Highland. Since returning to clinical practice in 2019 she has trained as a coach and lifestyle medicine physician. She started working in Alness as a regular locum in 2021 and took a permanent job in May 2023. She has a special interest in supporting people with long-term conditions and medically unexplained symptoms take more control of their health.

DR CATHERINE TODD

Dr Catherine Todd, General Practitioner and Senior Lecturer of Medical Education. University of Dundee and Lead for Highland for ScotGEM ( graduate entry for medicine) Graduated from Leicester University 1988. Trained as a GP in Leeds. Worked in A&E in New Zealand before returning to be a GP in Alva . Clackmannanshire. Moved to Highland in 2004 and worked as a locum in lots of different practices before becoming a GP on Isle of Tiree .Returned to mainland to work as an Emergency Practitioner in Raigmore A&E for 3 years before joining Highland Hospice for 8 years. Special interests include Palliative Care, Emergencies and women's health, as well as education and supporting the next generation of doctors. Passionate about wild swimming and exploring the outdoors and the benefits this brings to patients and healthcare professionals.

DR CHERITH SUTTON

Female

Dr Sutton has a background as a hospital doctor and has worked in the surgical department in Raigmore hospital for over 10 years. She later trained as a General Practitioner. She works one day a week in the practice as well as continuing to work as a surgeon. Dr Sutton brings her surgical experience to the practice and runs the minor surgery service. She has also recently started to work in the Highland Dermatology department and hopes to, with time, bring her experience from this post to patients in the practice. As a GP, she has an additional interest in Women's Health.

DR KEITH JAYASEKARA

Male

Dr Keith Jayasekara qualified from Dundee University in 1994. After hospital jobs in the Midlands & North London, he completed his GP training in 1999. He has worked as a NHS GP for more than 24 years in Hertfordshire and Mid Essex. He is looking forward to spending time in this most beautiful part of Scotland.

Medical Students

At certain times medical students, or students with any member of the Primary Health Care Team may be working under supervision. You may be asked for your permission for a student to be involved in your care.

Nurse Practitioners

Advanced nurse practitioners are registered nurses who have acquired the expert knowledge base, complex decision-making skills and clinical competencies for expanded practice. They are able to diagnose and treat your health care needs or refer you to an appropriate specialist if needed.

Nurses

Practice nurses are qualified and registered nurses. They can help with health issues such as family planning, healthy living advice, blood pressure checks and dressings. The practice nurses run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma or diabetes, minor ailment clinics and carry out cervical smears.

Healthcare Assistants

Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as phlebotomy (drawing blood), blood pressure measurement and new patient checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one.

Practice Management

The practice manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.

Reception

Receptionists provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with financial claims, dealing with patient records and carrying out searches and practice audits.

Health Visitors

A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing.

Attached Staff

The Primary Health Care Team consists of the Medical Practice plus the nursing staff, physiotherapists, chiropodist, dentist and visiting specialists. All members of the team have specific skills and experience which they bring together to provide the help you need.
